Set overall with paste brilliants and semi-precious stones on an enamelled ground, the later oval plate within a moulded, channelled frame applied with opal cabochons and surmounted by a pierced scrolled cresting with central rosette, the cobalt blue verre eglomisé back within a moulded frame chased with foliate designs, the cresting possibly later

Lot Essay

This mirror is attributed to the 18th Century London clock and case-maker James Cox (d.1788) who made many highly elaborate jewelled automaton and musical clocks for the Chinese market. A clock case of his with a later movement is included in the collection of Important Furniture, the Property of Mr. Edward Sarofim, to be offered in these Rooms, 16 Novmber 1995, lot 136
