The rectangular top with moulded edge and inlaid with two ovals above a pair of doors with conforming inlay and enclosing a lozenge-parquetry interior of ten variously-sized walnut-lined drawers, the stand with a single walnut-lined long drawer, on spirally-turned legs joined by a box stretcher inlaid with geometric band, with printed depository label of WALTER CARTER HARROD'S SOUTHPORT

Lot Essay

The use of walnut in the construction at this time suggests that this cabinet may have been made by an immigrant craftsman in England. A related cabinet with oyster-veneer and bobbin-turned legs was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 15 November 1990, lot 121
