Lot Essay

Cordailys was designed circa 1898 by Armitage Rigby, a follower of Baillie Scott. A similar pair of andirons by Baillie Scott is shown in a drawing in the Building News, 23 July 1987 (J. Kornwolf, M.H. Baillie Scott and the Arts and Crafts Movement, Baltimore and London, 1972, p.165), aswell as in the Hall of another Isle of Man house (p.199)
