The design of this clock relates to the standing figure clocks executed by the celebrated bronzeur Andre-Antoine Ravrio (d. 1814) in the early 19th century. A model illustrated by H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel, et. al., Vergoldete Bronzen, I, Munich, 1986, fig. 5.3.2, incorporates a similar, but standing, figure between hieroglyphic panels. Thomas Hope possessed a clock of this model which is included in Household Furniture and Interior Decorations, 1807, p. 13. An example of that clock was sold in these Rooms, 18 June 1987, lot 103
