Sohn was a pupil of Wilhelm Schadow, with whom he travelled to Italy in 1830. There, following in the footsteps of his Nazarene brothers, he was drawn to the riches of Italian art and literature. Our work depicts characters in a dramatic work written by Goethe in 1790, entitled Tasso, based on the life of this Italian Sixteenth Century poet.
