Lot Essay

Laÿs studied watercolour and oil painting from the well-known Lyon flower painter, Simon Saint-Jean, and worked as his valet for ten years. Although Laÿs exhibited in Paris and internationally (Philadelphia, London, Geneva, etc.) most of his fruit and flower pieces were commissioned by Lyonnais patrons.
