This casket is inspired by four Mosan 12th Century plaques in the Louvre, Paris, which entered their collection in 1820. They were until recently assumed to form part of a casket, but have now been associated with other similar plaques in various museums, and , in fact, form part of a large crucifix (cf. Rhein und Maas, op.cit.).
