Lot Essay

Nureyev first danced the role of the Golden Slave with the London Festival Ballet on their American tour in 1978. It featured as part of Nureyev's Tribute to Diaghilev which opened at the Coliseum, London, in June 1979. Diaghilev's original production, with music by Rimsky-Korsakov, choreography by Fokine and design by Bakst, had it's première, with Nijinsky, at the Opéra, Paris, on June 4th, 1910. Subsequant productions have followed Bakst's stunning designs
