The present picture is similar in treatment to Bachelier's Milo of Croton in the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin (see the catalogue of the exhibition, France in the Eighteenth Century, The Royal Academy, London, 1968, pp. 44-5, no. II, fig. 327).
