Lot Essay

The Cavendish Bentinck collection was dominated by the Venetian and Veronese pictures, including large numbers of paintings by Tintoretto, Veronese, Pietro Longhi, G. B. Tiepolo, Canaletto and Guardi,
many of them acquired in the Veneto. At his sale Agnew's also bid successfully on Stirling's behalf for lot 571, a superb Longhi which was sold from Keir at Sotheby's, 3 July 1963, lot 42
