Lot Essay

Alexander Bland was the pseudonym for the collaborators Nigel Gosling and his wife, the former dancer, Maude Lloyd. The Goslings were amongst the earliest and closest of Nureyev's friends after his 'leap' to the West in 1961. When Nureyev moved his principal residence to Paris in the early 1980s he retained a pied-à-terre in their Kensington house.
