Landmark Vineyards, Grand Detour Van der Kamp Vineyard, Pinot Noir --Vintage 1998
Sonoma Mountain
"The 1998 Pinot Noir Grand Detour Van der Kamp Vineyard (375 cases) was produced from destemmed grapes fermented with indigenous yeasts in open-top fermenters, transferred to French oak barrels (60 new and 40 one-year old) for 12 months, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. It is a complex Pinot Noir that could pass for a top-ranked Burgundy, although it possesses lower acidity. The 1998 has taken on smoky, plum, cherry characteristics infused with violets, roasted herbs and earthy notes. It tastes like a premier cru Vosne-Romanée from a ripe vintage. Rich, with supple tannin, adequate acidity, and an expansive, rich mouthfeel, it is best drunk over the next 6-7 years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, Issue 132, 12/23/00
