According to records in the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Dokumentatie, Professor W. R. Valentiner suggested a possible attribution to Salomon de Bray in a letter of 14 December 1939, and Professor Horst Gerson attributed the picture to Pieter de Grebber in a letter of 11 January 1962
