Lot Essay

The artist lived in London and exhibited at the Royal Academy, the British Institution and the Society of British Artists. He specialised in landscape and genre, favouring scenes of girls tending cattle or engaged in such coastal pursuits as fishing and gathering mussels. He found subjects in Scotland and Wales and is known to have collaborated with the Norwich artist Henry Bright (1814-1873). Examples of his work are at Reading, Sheffield and York.
