Lot Essay

William Littler and Aaron Wedgwood shared a pot-bank at Brownhills, 1749-63. Littler then moved to Longton Hall to concentrate on porcelain production leaving Wedgwood on his own. In the sales account book of Thomas Wedgwood they refer to their cousin's wares as 'Aaron's Blue'. See Arnold Mountford, The Illustrated Guide to Staffordshire Salt-Glazed Stoneware, p. 52, also cf. the vase from the Rous Lench Collection sold in these Rooms on 29 May 1990, lot 172
