The present composition is one of Carrier-Belleuse's most successful and playful groups, clearly inspired by Clodion's 18th Century Bacchanals. A signed Charpentier cast of the same subject and same size was sold in these rooms, lot 53, 15 May 1986; the present cast however, is further enlivened by the use of contrasting patination.
