The original cartoon for this window, one of a series of seven allegorical scenes designed by Burne-Jones, was produced in 1864 for The Hill, the home of the painter Myles Birket Foster in Witley, Surrey. This first example of the window is recorded in Burne-Jones' account book for that year. A second example was exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum the same year, the museum still holds this window, together with a later set produced in 1909.
