Cf. Robert Speaight, The Life of Eric Gill, 1966, p.28

This mirror was made to celebrate the artist's marriage in August 1904 to Ethel Mary Moore, daughter of the Beadle of Chichester Cathedral. The mirror was made for the couple's new home at 20 Black Lion Lane, Hammersmith. The carving was executed by Eric Gill and is one of his earliest carved inscriptions. The gilded decoration was by his wife who had a studio in the loft of the house.
