Lot Essay
George William Hervey, (1721-1775), succeeded his grandfather as 2nd Earl of Bristol in 1751. His father Lord Hervey had died in 1743 leaving him as heir. In addition to this he was co-heir to the states of Henry 10th Earl of Suffolk, and to the Baroney of Howard de Walden. He was sometime Ambassador to Madrid and Turin and died unmarried. He was succeeded by his second brother Augustus John who died childless in 1779, and then by his third brother the famed Earl-Bishop of Derry, builder of Ickworth.
