Lot Essay

These dishes obviously formed part of a dinner service by Sprimont of 1743, now dispersed. A number of other pieces with the same foliage and reeded border are recorded. These include forty-eight dinner plates, sold, Christie's, 15th May, 1957, lots 167, and 168, a pair of second course dishes, sold, Christie's, 25th May, 1960, lot 55, and a pair of longer second course dishes, sold, Christie's, 11th July, 1985, lot 309.
