Lot Essay

Luca Penni's drawing, on which this etching is based, is in the Louvre. The grandeur of the conception and the use of certain motifs invites comparison with the drawing by Leonard Thiry, formerly attributed to Rosso Fiorentino, in the British Museum. The British Museum does not possess an impression of this print.
