The Reverend Walter Sneyd was part of the anonymous amateur set, that kept the art of caricaturing an important part of country house entertainment. The son of Walter Sneyd of Keele Hall, Staffordshire, and the nephew to the caricaturist the Rev. John Sneyd, Rector of Elford (who was a close friend of James Gillray). He was educated at Westminster and Christ Church, Oxford. His most notable accomplishment was his share in the book privately printed and issued in 1829, titled the Spruggins Gallery. The four volume book pretended to be the history of a family of ancient lineage as seen through their collection of historical portraits from the first Hugo de Spruggs A.D. 1392 to the 17th and 18th Century descendants such as Peter Euchid Spruggins and Hans van Plumpenpaunch.
