On the basis of a transparency and a photograph, Professor R.A. d'Hulst (private communication of 11 Feb. 1991) states that he is 'almost certain that it is indeed a preliminary sketch by Jordaens for the old peasant woman in his Satyr and the Peasant Family in the Museum of Brussels...'
