Lot Essay
Long thought to be late 19th century retailers who stamped property passing through their hands, the firm of W. Williamson and Sons are in fact recorded as cabinet-makers in Guildford, Surrey at two addresses 1790-1840. Amongst the recorded pieces stamped with their name is a Regency rosewood sofa table with canted corners, sold anonymoulsy at Sotheby's London, 10 February 1967, lot 165 (see: Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, F.H.S., Leeds, 1986, p. 983)
