The supports appear to derive from F. Primaticcio's 16th Century 'altar-pedestal' monument for Henri II of France (d.1559), now in the Louvre. A very similar pair was sold by the Executors of the late John Trafford, Esq., Hill Court, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, at Christie's house sale, 13 December 1982, lot 106.
The state bed at Castle Coole, Co. Fermanagh, has a very similar outline, also carved with acanthus and with paw feet (see: J. Fowler and J. Cornforth, English Decoration in the 18th Century, London, 1974, p. 97, fig. 75)
