A similar secretaire in the Empire style stamped by S. Jamar and dated 1819, with almost identical lock-plate and Apollo-mount to the fall-front, was sold at Sotheby's London, 5 April 1989, lot 131. The lockplate of this piece was engraved S. Jamer Cabinet Maker to Louis Bonaparte, King of Holland - 37 Gerrard Street, London.
S. Jamer is recorded as a cabinet-maker in London and Liverpoool 1816-1826. Before moving to premises in Gerrard Street, he is recorded at 29 Wardour Street, Soho. He advertised as providing furniture ...equal to any made in Paris, at a rate...considerably advantageous....
