Lot Essay

'Industry' was a bay filly by 'Priam' out of 'Arachne', bred by the Earl of Chesterfield in 1835. In 1838 she won The Oaks with W. Scott up. In 1839 she won a Handicap at The Pottery and the Trial Stakes at Wolverhampton. At stud she bred 'Lady Evelyn', winner of the 1,000 Guineas, for Lord Chesterfield.

A portrait of 'Industry' was engraved by C. & G. Hunt (16¾ x 12¾) and published in July 1838 by John Moore for Herring's series of Oaks winners. The plate was dedicated to the Earl of Chesterfield.
