Babette Böhn tentatively accepts the attribution, on the basis of a photograph. She suggests a date of the 1590s, citing comparisons with a Seated Nude at Lille and the study of Ops at Besançon, B.Böhn, The Chalk Drawings of Lodovico Carracci; Master Drawings, XXII, pls. 13 and 19. Lodovico is recorded by Malvasia as having spent a short period in Rome in 1602, and it is possible that this drawing, as the inscription suggests, dates from this time
