Louis Marcy, the anarchist and forger, was born in 1860 in Reggio Emilia, northern Italy. He moved to London in 1888 from Paris and Brussels, and sold several expensive 'medieval' items to the Victoria and Albert Musem and to the British Museum in the 1890's. In about 1918 he left Paris, returning to Reggio Emilia. In 1932 he negotiated the sale of his collection of 'antiquities' to the municipality, where they may be seen today (correctly attributed). His workshop in Paris produced fine quality fakes, imitating medieval works of art of noble provenance.
