An almost identical dagger, certainly from the same workshop and probably by the same hand as this example is in the Benaki Museum, Athens. From that one can deduce that ours originally had an applied pointed oval panel above the hilt inset with precious stones. That example is also signed Ahmad and dated 1234 (1818-19AD)
