The relatively late date of this dish is belied by the shape which relates to the products of fifteenth century Syria. While composite blazons, that is, a blazon comprising two or more charges, are common, two or more blazons on an object are rare. According to Mayer, when more than one blazon is respresented on an object, they are those of the master and his officers. (cf. Mayer, pl.xiii). Here the blazons are those of the cup bearer (saqi) and of the Master of the Robes (jamdar), symbolised by the napkin in the form of a rhomboid. The anonymous inscription is typical of the type, reading:'izz li-mawlana, al-sultan, al-'alim, al-nasir, al-'adil, al-majid (Glory to our Lord, the Sultan, the wise, the powerful, the just, the illustrious)
