This is a complex piece of casting, including, as it does, a substantial inner ring. The solidity of metal and particularly the lightly dotted decoration links it to the group of very early Islamic bronze ewers related to the Marwan ewer. All are heavily cast with strong shapes, but bearing decoration that is often extremely difficult to read.
