The most sumptious of all the coronation albums of the Russian tsars, describing the ceremonies and the guests, domestic and foreign who witnessed the event. The magnificient colour plates include portraits of the Tsar and Tsarina, the most notable parts of the ceremonies including the initial procession from the Pettrovskii Palace to the Kremlin, the coronation itself and some of the festiviti4es at the palace, opera and outside.
V.A. Vereshchagin states that only 200 copies were printed, 100 in Russian and 100 in French, with type specially cast, and that it was one of the most ambitious publications in Russia during the 19th Century [see Russian Illustrated Editions 1720-1870 (St. Petersburg, 1898) no.25. As the volume was published for presentation and not offered for public sale, it is regarded as a bibliographic rarety (see also A.E.
