INDENT"Ally Sloper's Half-Holiday" was a weekly satirical paper of the late 19th century. The Sloper silver medal for Valour was awarded sparingly, one of the first recipients being the explorer Sir Henry Moreton Stanley. Piper Findlater's award was announced in the issue of May 7th 1898. A month later the issue of 11th June recorded "Positive thunders of applause, peal upon peal of hearty British cheers greet the appearance of Piper Findlater V.C., on his appearance at the Alhambra".
