INDENTCaptain Adrian St. Vincent Keys, R.N. (1882-1926), entered the Royal Navy 1896; Sub Lieutenant, 1901; Lieutenant, 1902; specialised in submarines from 1903; attached "Forth" 1905-06 and commanded "Onyx" Devonport 1907-9, "Fawn", T.B.A., and "Basilisk"; retired as Lieutenant, 1912; appointed to Shearwater I, Royal Canadian Navy, as Commander, Submarine Flotilla 6.8.1914; in naval charge of the landing at "Y" Beach, Gallipoli, 25-26 April 1915, and was Mentioned in Sir Ian Hamilton's report "Lieutenant Commander Keyes showed great coolness, gallantry and ability. The success of the landing on "Y" beach was largely due to his good services. When circumstances compelled the force landed there to re-embark this officer showed exceptional resource and leadership in successfully conducting that difficult operation". (D.S.O. London Gazette 16.8.1915, and commended for service in action during the operations in Gallipoli April 1915 - January 1916, London Gazette 15.9.1916); Commander of "Q" 26 (S.S. Mavis), torpedoed June 1917; commanded Devonport "Hunting Flotilla" 1917-18, during which time all submarine hunting was organised on a local basis; Acting Captain on Staff of Commander-in-Chief, Plymouth, 1919 (C.B.E.)
