(1894-1957) is shown as Lieutenant, Essex Battery, Royal Horse Artillery (T.F.), October, 1914; served with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force (Mentioned in Despatches, January, 1918; M.C.); Major, 1920; Brevet Lieut. Colonel, 1928; D.L. Essex, 1930 and High Sherrif of the County, 1934; following the family tradition, he became a Verderer of Epping Forest a post he held for 33 years, from 1924-57 and was a prominent and well respected figure; as a Temporary Lieut. Colonel, he was 'Specially Employed' in the Department of the Chief of the Imperial General Staff under the Director of Plans (Second World War period)
