INDENTPrivate James Allen, originally from the United States of America, was killed in action at Zillebeke, 13th June, 1916; he arrived in the trenches late on the 11th, volunteered for the machine-gun section of his company and was killed about 24 hours later. Private Allen is buried in the Railway Dugout Burial Ground Cemetery (Transport Farm), Zillebeke which is one mile behind the original firing line

Major Ernest de Lannoy Hayes (1869-1915), entered the Scottish Rifles, 1890; served in the South African War and was present at the relief of Ladysmith, the actions at Colenso, Spion Kop, Vaal Kranz and Pieter's Hill (Mentioned in Despatches); Major, 1908; while leading his company into action at Neuve Chapelle, 10th March, 1915, he was killed in front of the enemy wire
