INDENTIntroduced by Edward VII in 1902, the Royal Victorian Chain in not part of the Royal Victorian Order which has its own, very different, Collar. The Royal Victorian Chain is conferred as a special mark of the Sovereign's favour, and then only rarely, on Royalty and other especially distinguished personages. Abbas II Hilmi received his Chain while on a visit to England, 15th June 1905.

Most Royal Victorian Chains are returnable, but as is usual, those given to heads of State are considered gifts. This chain is among those listed in the Central Chancery as not returnable on the death of the recipient.
