INDENTPrivate J. Sime evaded capture following the Battle of Crete and escaped from the island, in company with nine officers and 59 other ranks, in a motor launch, 1st. June, 1941. The following day the launch was intercepted by an Italian submarine which removed the nine officers but allowed the other ranks to proceed. After four days at sea the launch reached Mersah Matruh, having covered 300 miles with an army compass as the only aid to navigation. Private Sime returned to his battalion, 6th. June, 1941.
Corporal Peter McPhee was killed in action during the Battle of Sidi Barani, 10th. December, 1940 and is buried in Halfaya Sollum War Cemetery, Egypt.
Colour Sergeant George Brown was captured in Crete, 1941 and was held prisoner-of-war in Stalag 18A at Wolfsberg, Southern Austria for the remainder of the war (Prisoners of War, British Army, 1939-45--Hayward refers)
