INDENTThe Kimberley Medal was struck in 1900 to commemorate General French's relief of the City on February 15th. that year. Both the number of medals struck and the reason for their withdrawal is unknown, although the inclusion of the Royal Monogram, V.R.I., without official sanction, may have been a factor in the latter case. Although the majority were melted down, some medals survived; named examples are extremely rare (Boer War Tribute Medals by M.G. Hibbard).
