The Bombay Government first appointed Biggs in 1854-5 to photograph the Muslim monuments and sculpture at Bijapur and Ahmedabad, Western India. The project was delayed by the mutiny of 1857 and was continued by Pigou, who died during the course of the work. Biggs subsequently continued, aided by Neill who worked in Mysore. Two volumes of photographs were published in 1865, the second titled Architecture at Beejapoor. Of the 100 photographs in Dharwar & Mysore, sixty were by Pigou.
