Although this type of vase is usually given to Venice the shell ornament is known on two documentary albarelli, one in the Musée de Cluny inscribed 'in terra Duranti' (see Dr J. Chompret, op. cit., fig. 163) and the other in the Victoria & Albert Museum inscribed 'in Terr Dvrantis' (Bernard Rackham, Catalogue..., pl. 97, no. 615); a Castel Durante attribution should not, therefore, be entirely discounted
