Only a small portion of these fire-clay wig-curlers appear to have been marked, mostly dating from the 18th century and the initials on the present examples would seem to be the most frequently found. To date research has failed to identify these makers' marks; however, fire-clay wig-curlers were most probably produced as a side-line by the pipe manufacturers
