Lot Essay

Eugen Schlipf was born in 1869 in Buchau, and worked primarily in Munich and Stuttgart. The museum at Biberach has a version of his celebrated Joueuse de Tuba. The present nymph is a finely modelled and cast study of the female nude, and a graceful example of late 19th century sculpture, which captures in its melodious forms the spirit of music of its title.
