Lot Essay

The result of thermoluminescence test, Oxford 666p67, is consistent with the dating of this lot

Compare similar figures dated to the Western Han Dynasty excavated in Gansu, illustrated in Ancient Chinese Arts in the Idemitsu Collection, fig.253, and p.221, no.25 for a description and discussion of the figures. Cf. also the similar bronze figures of mourners, published by Christian Deydier, Chinese Bronzes, pl. 102; and Kandai no Bijutsu, Osaka, pls. 57 and 246.
