Lot Essay
A similar claret-jug, also by Joseph Angell, of 1851, is in the collection of the Goldsmith's Company and is illustrated in T. Schroder, English Domestic Silver, 1500 - 1900, p. 267. It was made for the Great Exhibition of 1851 and is illustrated in the exhibition catalogue, p.163, where it is referred to as the "vintage jug".
