Lot Essay

The decoration and size of the above salver is almost identical to one by Paul de Lamerie, 1734, described and illustrated in P.A.S. Phillips, Paul de Lamerie, his life and work, p.94, pl. LXXXVI. Formerly in the collection of William Farrer, it is also illustrated in E. Alfred Jones, The Collection of Old Plate of William Francis Farrer, 1924, pl. LXII.

A matching pair of square salvers were in the collection of Lillian and Morrie Morris, and one is illustrated in Lillian and Morrie Morris Collection of Paul Storr Silver, 1972, pl. 188
