Isambard Kingdom Brunel and thence by descent

Isambard Kingdom Brunard (1806-1859), the celebrated Victorian engineer, was the son of Sir Mare Isambard Brunel (1769-1849). The latter was himself a distinguished invenotr and engineer of French extradition. He had been a naval officer before the revolution, leaving in 1792 bacause of his royalist views. He arrived in England in 1799 having spent the intervening years in America.
