The decoration and oriental form of the cabinet can be compared with the products of the Dagley workshops in Berlin (see Hans Huth, Lacquer of the West, Chicago, 1971, figs. 159-169). The 'fern' or 'wintery landscape' panels can be compared with those on a late 17th Century Augsburg cabinet illustrated in H. Kriesel, Die Kunst des Deutschen Möbels, Munich, 1968, vol. 1, fig. 563; and appear on a mid-17th Century German cabinet in the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, Milan, (see A. Gonzalez-Palacios, Mosaici e Pietre Dure, Milano, 1982, p. 12)
