Lot Essay

This watch was made almost certainly by Philip Heinrich Pepfenhauser of Augsburg, born 26 May 1657, married in 1683, self-employed 29 September 1683. Examples of his work are in various museums in Germany, see Meister der Uhrmacherkunst by Jurgen Abeler, page 475. Misspelling by engravers is a not uncommon occurrence.
